Dust Control

Airborne dust particles have a detrimental effect on many different aspects of our daily life, whether it’s within our Industry or personal life.

Why is dust a problem?

Airborne dust from construction / industry sites is a problem for a number of reasons, it can:

  • Create health problems, particularly for those with respiratory problems.
  • Cause environmental degradation, including air and water pollution.
  • Create problems with visibility.
  • Damage or dirty property and belongings.
  • Create unsafe working conditions.
  • Machinery degradation – clogs up filters reducing running efficiency, causes wear on bearings and other running parts.

What are the benefits of effective dust control?

There are a number of benefits associated with effective dust control:

  • Enhanced business reputation.
  • Better working conditions for staff.
  • Better working relationships with clients and the community.
  • Improvements in relations with regulatory authorities, e.g. Local Government.
  • Reduction of health risks resulting from air pollution.
  • Reduction in air & water pollution.
  • Fewer disturbances to existing flora and fauna habitats.
  • Helps with erosion control and soil stabilisation.

To ensure your business or company complies with ever increasing environmental pressures, Evergreen Landcare can provide a number of different dust suppressant products to suit your specific needs.

These products can be used and are successful over a wide variety of surfaces, from unsealed local government roads to underground mine roads, capable of tolerating the heaviest of vehicles and traffic intensity and most importantly they can be used in environmentally sensitive areas.

Specialised dust suppressant products require fewer maintenance applications than normal water cart applications.

As well as being used for dust control, products can also be used to help benefit soil stabilisation and erosion control.

‘When Dust is affecting your operational safety and productivity then give one of the team a call and we can discuss with you and organise a specific dust suppression programme most suited to your site specifics’.

Siltstop

SILTSTOP® is one of the latest geo-engineering technologies available to the mining, earthworks, and construction industries.

The erosion control tubes are typically constructed with filled diameters of 300mm and 150mm. Other sizes can be made to suit specific requirements.

SILTSTOP® can be filled on site using a variety of products - either imported or sourced from site – depending upon the application needed.

SILTSTOP® are cost competitive compared to standard silt fence systems which require considerable effort to construct.

The tubes are rapid to place. Installation costs are dependent on the length of SILTSTOP® needed and whether filling on site is required. SILTSTOP® can be used for:

  • Retention and filtration of sediment
  • As a cost-effective alternative to engineered walls
  • As a growth medium for vegetation
  • Track and pavement support
  • Stabilisation of erosion scarps and slips
  • Stream bank repair and armouring
  • Control and direction of overland flow (storm water, stream diversion, clean water by-pass)
  • On-demand supply of flocculant for sediment removal

Bioblanket

BIOBLANKET® is a bonded fibre matrix specially designed for New Zealand conditions, using materials made in New Zealand.

BIOBLANKET® is used on difficult steep sites that need greater early surface protection from wind and water erosion, than that offered by conventional hydroseeding.

BIOBLANKET® provides a natural skin over the treated surface and adheres to the soil.

It follows the contours of the slope and avoids the problems of under-rilling.

The surface of BIOBLANKET® is textured and porous. This reduces precipitation run-off velocity. It also captures water to maintain an even soil moisture content.

BIOBLANKET® contains a blend of elongated wood fibres bound together with non-toxic adhesives. It slowly degrades as vegetation is established.

Hydrosoil

HYDROSOIL® is a new product for use on difficult low-fertility sites developed by Evergreen Landcare.

HYDROSOIL® bonds readily with whatever substrate it is applied to.

HYDROSOIL®'s dark colour attracts sunlight, making the seedbed warmer and encouraging faster seed germination.

Its special tackifier helps retain moisture in the soil surface. This reduces the possibility of a hard soil crust developing.

The organic humus material in HYDROSOIL® assists in the future development of soil microbes.

When HYDROSOIL® is combined with straw mulching, higher than average soil surface moisture levels are maintained.

None of the ingredients of HYDROSOIL® are classified as Hazardous Substances.
